
InscriptiFact I Goes Public
InscriptiFact I, an Internet Database of ancient inscriptions and artifacts is now available for students, researchers and scholars of the ancient Near East. As of October 1, 2004, InscriptiFact will have approximately 5,200 images, with another 5,000 to be added by the end of the year. These images include Dead Sea Scrolls from the Amman Citadel Museum, Phoenician inscriptions from the National Museum in Beirut, inscriptions and artifacts from the University of Southern California Archaeological Research Collection, Egyptian scarabs from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Elephantine Papyri from the Aegyptisches Museum in Berlin and the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and many more.
The images found on InscriptiFact are high-resolution, high-quality images intended for serious study of inscriptions and artifacts. The images represent different levels of magnification, several film types, and sometimes different dates of capture.
Access to the InscriptiFact images is free of charge. The site is password-protected and in order to receive a password prospective users must sign an agreement to use the images for study or classroom purposes only. Upon receipt of the application form the user will be assigned a username and password by email.
